NHMS Expert Interview Series
Conversations with the people who know NHS procurement best.
About this series
The NHMS Expert Interview Series brings together the people who make NHS hospital procurement work — the suppliers, the procurement leaders, the clinicians, and the advisors — for honest, practical conversations about what it takes to sell to the NHS, buy for the NHS, and build businesses in this sector.
Every episode is a one-to-one conversation with Barry Shrier, Founder of The National Health and Medical Services Group of Companies and Founder of the GIANT Health Event, the UK’s flagship NHS innovation festival now in its 13th year.
The series covers questions that matter to anyone working in or around NHS hospital supply: How do hospitals actually decide what to buy? What do procurement teams look for in a supplier? How are regulatory changes and digital procurement reshaping the market? What does it take to build a successful business selling to the NHS?
Whether you run a business that supplies NHS hospitals, work in NHS procurement, or are considering entering the sector, these conversations are designed to be useful, direct, and free of jargon.
Meet the Host
Barry Shrier has spent 13 years building the GIANT Health platform, the UK’s foremost NHS innovation ecosystem connecting over 360,000 people across healthcare, technology, and business. He founded The National Health and Medical Services Group of Companies to strengthen the businesses that supply NHS hospitals. Barry’s network spans NHS procurement leaders, hospital trust boards, government health officials, and thousands of companies across the NHS supply chain. He brings that breadth of connection to every conversation in this series.
Who We Interview
Our guests include:
Founders and managing directors of companies that supply products and services to NHS hospitals — from consumables and cleaning to medical devices and digital health.
NHS procurement leaders — heads of procurement, directors of supply chain, and commercial directors from NHS trusts and shared procurement services.
Clinicians with commercial expertise — doctors and nurses who bridge the gap between clinical need and procurement decision-making.
M&A and investment professionals — people involved in buying, selling, and investing in healthcare businesses.
Interested in Being a Guest?
We are always looking for interesting people to join the conversation. If you run a business that supplies NHS hospitals, lead procurement at an NHS trust, or have expertise in healthcare business or investment, we would welcome your perspective.
The format is simple: a 25–30 minute recorded conversation via video call. We share a short topic guide in advance so you know what to expect, but the conversation itself is informal and guided by your experience. No preparation required beyond being willing to share your experience and opinions honestly. We handle editing, branding, and distribution.
To express interest, email Barry directly at b@nhms.health or complete the short form.
